WebSep 30, 2016 · At Port Hope, Ontario, we witnessed the incredible survival instinct of salmons. Every fall, salmons migrate to the upper part of the river to spawn their eggs. Imagine large salmons jumping a fish ladder and swimming against the strong current just to spawn their eggs! It can be pretty neat seeing them jump and the vast numbers that travel up river each season. To my surprise the whole area was roped off. No access on either side.

Not sure we will get much natural reproduction this year with lack of rain and warm temps. The Salmon River is showing 64 degrees. I think the water needs to be at least as low as upper 50’s in order for eggs to eye-up and develop.
